The 2012 Washington State Book Awards have been announced, and the Scandiuzzi Children's Book Award went to "To Market, To Market" by Nikki McClure. McClure is an artist from Olympia who constructs stunning designs and images with colorful paper cuts. Her book highlights farmers markets, both the food and the people responsible for producing and selling it. So proud of our incredible local writing/art scene!

Nellie's first day of school! Can't even believe how fast the time has gone by.  I have been caring for Miss Nellie "Bean" since she was 5 months old, and now she's 5 years old and off to school!

Care For Our World

 

  So excited for my SCBWI friend Karen Robbins whose first picture book, CARE FOR OUR WORLD (illustrated by Alexandra Ball from the U.K. and published by Compendium) recently released at the NY Stationary Show. Compendium also created an adorable CARE FOR OUR WORLD playkit with punch out animals, for hours of imaginative play, which has been named the Playset of the Year and Top Toy of the Year by Creative Child Magazine. Karen's book has also recently won Runner-Up at the Green Book Festival in S.F. in the children's book division.

Karen has been a member of the SCBWI for 26 years, and has published several books and over fifty magazine articles.

Congratulations, Karen!  A beautiful accomplishment indeed, I can't wait to purchase my own copy!
