Caldecott & Newbery Winners Announced Today!

You Can Teach an Old Picture Book New Tricks...

"Once upon a time, there was this bear. One minute, he was strolling in the woods, all happy-go-lucky....
The next minute, he didn't have a crumb-of-a-clue where he was.
He was one COMPLETELY lost bear."

GOLDILOCKS AND JUST ONE BEAR is a lovely retelling (more of a sequel, really) of the Goldilocks tale by Leigh Hodgkinson with a fresh and fun new take on the story. I absolutely adore the originality of this voice and the use of fanciful language throughout. The surprise twist at the end is just the icing on the cake of this picture book delight! This is a perfect example of how you put a new spin on an age-old tale.

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play *goes on* and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?"

~Robin Williams, Dead Poet's Society
